Product Diversification – Simple logic producing results.

I have been working on this “at-home-business-make-money” thing for some time now.  I’ve made a little, lost a little, broke even, and had fun. (In fact, it is my son who keeps telling me that the main thing is to have fun).  Hmmm.

Actually, I am doing this to make money.  I make no bones about that.  that’s the whole idea behind finding a product, learning about the product, promoting the project, tweaking the product promotions, and selling the product.

What I have discovered, sometimes to my surprise and disappointment, is that some of the products I think are fantastic — you know, the ones that everyone will like as much as I do, are actually not all that popular.  Boy, that is a come-down if there ever was one.  We all think that our “taste” for things is top-notch, top of the pack.  Then to be reminded rather rudely that very few people  agree with me — Wow, that’s a slap at the side of the head!

You see, what I am aiming at here is the fact that sometimes it takes trying a lot of products to find the few that work for me.

Admittedly, I need to lose weight.  In fact, there are repeated newscast and printed stories that confirm the fact that what is becoming an obese majority of people in this world need to lose weight.  So, some of the first products I promoted were diet plans.  That should be good.  Everyone needs it.   . . . .   Well . . . .  they might need it, but . . . . . . . . .

So, what to do.  Keep promoting it?  Keep spending money on PPC or other advertising?  Keep tweaking the product until it works?

Sure, but the better thing to do is to add to the product line.  More than one item being sold is good.  Afterall, the marketing giants realize that fact.  Why shouldn’t I?   Imagine walking into a Walmart or Sears store and only finding one product for sale!  Crazy thought, isn’t it.

So, my line of goods has grown over the months past.  Some have been good, some not great.  But together, they make a good package of products that will sell.

When I discovered this fact, the stress level I was under lessened.  I began to see some results.  And I saw the error of my ways.

It could be called:  Product Diversification.
